Expanding the Training Team
Choices for Youth’s (CFY) Education, Employment, and Social Enterprise (EESE) team saw its training program grow during the 2022-2023 fiscal year. EESE takes a three-pronged approach to running CFY social enterprises – business, support, and training. These three prongs form a strong base that supports EESE and the individual social enterprises it operates, with each individual prong having its own leadership and support staff. EESE took significant steps last year to expand its training team to better support CFY social enterprises and to enhance its ability to offer training and business development to partner organizations operating their own social enterprise in other parts of NL.

The growth of the EESE training team was essential to achieving key deliverables for EESE’s research project with NL Workforce Innovation Centre (NLWIC). Funding for the NLWIC project allowed EESE to create two new training facilitator positions and one curriculum worker position for the 2022/2023 fiscal year. EESE also moved an existing team member into a new Training Coordinator position.
Mari-Lynn Taylor, Manager of Education, Employment and Social Enterprise
“The need for leadership, that coordinator level, was really prevalent on the training side of things. Good leadership starts at the top, but how do you get to the top? It’s about that upward communication. So we spent a lot of time making the skeleton of our team really strong.”
Looking ahead, EESE will continue to enhance its capabilities by building on the two remaining prongs, business and support, to ensure it has the people, practices, policies, and procedures in place to maximize the potential of CFY social enterprise and also as a service offering to partner organizations.
